Trip 1 - Day 13 - L@tvian Natural History Museum

View from the 5th floor of the museum
Today was a good day with our Warrior.  We got a late start, mainly because we didn't have any specific plans.  At the last minute, we decided to walk to the L@tvian Natural History Museum which is a few blocks down our street towards Old Rig@.  The museum took about an hour to go through from start to finish, and there weren't very many people at all.  It was entirely in L@tvian, so maybe that's why it only took an hour to get through!  It consisted of five floors of exhibits mainly of plants and animals.  After that, we ate lunch in the park, and Seth and Warrior had fun chasing pigeons.

We walked through the Old City looking for some souvenirs.  The streets were crowded because of the weekend and the ships festival.  We ended up near the apartment of another American family who is here on their first trip adopting their teenage son.  They leave tomorrow morning to return to the US.  We visited with them in their apartment for a few hours.  After that, we ate dinner at our favorite L@tvian pancake restaurant.

Next week is our final week for Trip #1.  Monday, we have the final appointment with Warrior's doctor.  Tuesday, we should have our last social worker visit.  Wednesday, we will have our second court appearance, then our US Embassy interview.  Thursday, if all goes well, we'll go back to the Embassy to pick up our Warrior's visa.  Friday we fly home!

The Natural History Museum of Latvia is the largest and one of the oldest complex museums of natural history and sciences in Baltic States.  The Natural History Museum of Latvia originated from the museum of Riga Naturalists Society (Der Naturforscherverein zu Riga) that was founded in 1845. The objectives set by the Society at that time are linked with the current objectives – the preservation, maintenance and research of the natural collection, active environmental education, the formation of permanent and temporary exhibitions.
The Natural History Museum of Latvia is a marvelous place where to pass time and view modern, interactive displays and varied exhibitions, go on excursions, guided by environmental interpreters, to participate in various informative and educational activities on environmental and natural studies, to discuss the topical and latest events on nature issues, to see a wide range collections of natural resources. These are only a few activities characterizing the Natural History Museum  (http://www.dabasmuzejs.gov.lv/en/node/413)

  1. Haha, angry birds!! I'm enjoying the wide variety of photos, so they have graffiti there too, wow! So sad about that lady, first thing I thought of before reading the caption was that she was receiving blessings, may it be so. What an awesome opportunity the kids have experience to see what I'd say most of the kids back at home will never see and how important it is to experience other cultures.
